Easily compare a single, double, king & super king sized mattress

Are you a solo sleeper? Do you share a bed with a partner? Or maybe you’re here because you’re looking for a mattress for your child or parent. No matter who you’re shopping for, we’re here to empower you with information, so you can make the best investment for you and your mattress needs!

What is the difference between a hybrid & memory foam mattress?

This is a question we hear a lot! The primary difference between memory foam and hybrid mattresses is that hybrid mattresses also have a spring foundation, whereas a memory foam mattress is exclusively made of layers of foam.

Here’s why that difference matters: While memory foam mattresses offer a super comfy and soft feel, they can be lacking when it comes to long-term support. (We think of memory foam mattresses like a sweater that’s perfect the first few times you wear it, but then doesn’t retain the same fit and feel after a lot of washes.)

That’s why we’re proud to offer hybrid mattresses at Lola that are designed to do both: be comfortable AND supportive. We want you to get all the cosy benefits of a memory foam mattress with the support of a spring foundation.

How to choose the best mattress for couples or two people in the bed together

For couples or anyone sharing a bed with another person, we suggest a hybrid mattress. Why? The spring foundation offers a “cooling” effect -- rather than letting heat get trapped in the foam. Plus, as mentioned above, it also will provide long-term support for two.

As for size, we tend to gravitate towards a Double Mattress, King, or Super King mattress for couples. If you and your partner are under six feet, require less room, and don’t foresee furry friends/children coming into your sleeping space -- a Double mattress could be the appropriate choice for your situation. On the other hand, if you think you’re going to have kiddos snuggling with you or if you’re on the taller side -- a King or Super King mattress may be a better match for your needs.

The best sized mattresses for single sleepers

Depending on your sleeping habits and height, we generally recommend a Small Double or Double mattress for single sleepers. Here are some questions to ask yourself before deciding which mattress is the best choice for you:

  • Do you move a lot in your sleep? Or do you generally stay in the same spot? If you roll or toss and turn, we suggest a Small Double or Double since it will have more space width-wise.
  • Do you want space to lounge in your bed besides sleeping? If so, you may want to get something with more width such as a Double or above.
  • How tall are you? If you’re over six feet tall, you’ll probably want a bed with more than 80 inches of length. So, we’d potentially even suggest a King. Hey, if you want LOTS of space -- go for the Super King if you have the space and budget!

All this to say, there’s no “one size fits all” mattress for single sleepers! While a Double or King Bed may be too much space for one person, another may love the extra room. Depending on you and your lifestyle, your mattress needs will vary. We recommend, checking in with yourself and being realistic about your situation before making the investment.

The best sized mattress for children, kids & young adults

For children, a Single mattress is a great choice. The best part: they’re big enough for them to grow into. Meaning, you won’t have to replace it as they grow and mature. Less waste, less money spent -- win, win.

In terms of choosing between memory foam vs. hybrid, memory foam can be a good pick. Since kids are generally lighter than adults, the firmness and support may not be as high of a priority. That said, we still recommend hybrid mattresses, especially if the kid you’re shopping for gets hot at night... or ends up cuddling with an adult or sibling.
